Teen Counseling in Atlanta, GA
“The future belongs to those who choose to believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
- Eleanor Roosevelt
Being a teen in today’s world is tough. You must balance academics, your social life, extracurriculars, and family obligations. In the end, you have little time to focus on your mental health. Somedays, it feels like there’s a huge cloud hanging over your head that makes it hard to focus on your day-to-day life.
You may have found yourself feeling very anxious and worried about what others think of you. And, it has led you to do or at least think about doing things you know you shouldn’t be doing so others will like you more. Or, you don’t feel like you fit in with the people you go to school with and you’re often lonely. Somedays, you go home and wonder why it’s so hard for you to fit in when it seems so easy to others.
Being A Teen is Hard
Your family might be driving you crazy. It feels like your home is a war zone. Everyone argues and it’s exhausting. You want to get along with your parents, but it doesn’t feel like they get you.
Dealing with the pressures associated with being a teen is not easy. When you’re dealing with this stress, it can seem like one bad thing happens after another. This stress can make you feel like you’ll never get ahead. You’ve likely found yourself worrying that you will feel miserable forever.
But, let me assure you, help is available and you do not have to deal with your issues alone. There’s light at the end of the tunnel and our therapists can show you how to get there.
You may start teen counseling for many reasons. But, the most common reasons why teens begin counseling include:
Stress and worry
Depression and feelings of loneliness
Self-harm or suicidal behavior
Overwhelm
Trouble feeling motivated or completing tasks
Poor self-esteem
Worrying what others think of you
Questions or concerns about gender and sexuality
Relationship concerns
Family issues
Disordered eating and eating disorders
Drug or alcohol abuse
Concerns surrounding getting into college and navigating the high school to college transition
These may sound like issues you’re currently experiencing. Or, you have your own unique concerns. Whatever the case may be, we want you to know that what you’re going through is normal. Many teens (and adults too for that matter) struggle with mental health concerns. Did you know that 20% of teens have diagnosable mental health disorders? These include anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and more. So, you are certainly not alone. A counselor for teens can support you through your challenges. Together, they can help you move forward with confidence. You can be successful in whatever you decide to pursue.

A Note on Confidentiality for Parents:
We know that as a parent, you likely want to know what’s going on with your child and you want to help them find peace and clarity. So, you likely have many questions about what’s happening in your teen counseling sessions.
We get it, but, it is our job to create a safe space for your teen to talk freely about the issues they’re experiencing. For them to make progress in teen counseling, it is important that they feel comfortable talking to their therapist without facing repercussions. Thus, we will respect their privacy. As a general rule, we will refrain from disclosing the details of what’s discussed in counseling with you. But, there are exceptions to this rule, such as if your child shares info that would lead us to believe they are a danger to themselves or others.
